Progress

ree

It's been a while since I posted a devlog, and I've made much progress. I'm still working on the clothes but they are quite a ways along than they were in the last devlog I posted. I haven't been working on this sculpt as often as I'd like, I've been working on other things and sorting out some life stuff. I'm glad to have enough to make a devlog though and I hope to post these at least monthly.

Block out

I looked into more ways to make skirts and dresses, and I found out about using the curve bridge tool to make the shapes. This tool made it so that I could make them with ruffles much quicker than sculpting them on.

I was very happy with how this skirt came out. From here, I duplicated the skirts to make the different layers of the dress. From there I kept making more layers, masking out the top parts of the skirts to smooth them out but keep the ruffles on them. I then used spheres to block out the shelf mushrooms.

It stoked me to see the blockout of the dress. I think was stalling for a while because I wasn't sure how to execute them. From here, all I needed to do was refine the shapes and see it come together further.

Corset

I continued to refine the shape by adding the ruffle of the blouse that peaks over the top of the corset. From there I worked more on the corset, adding some of the paneling and the seams. I did this by masking out the sides and pulling things out and over to make the seams look more convincing. The next thing I did was create a stitch using cylinders and donuts to make threads and rivets. Once I made one, I mirrored it, and then I used those two on the side.

To create the scene on the front of the corset, I just masked out pieces, extruded them, and refined the shapes. I don't know if the model sheet made this clear, but this scene is made from leather paneling rather than it being painted on.

Sleeves & Skirt

After I got the corset to a point I was happy with, I started to work on the sleeves. I figured out the ruffles as I went. I mainly used cloth ball to block out the shapes and damStandard and ClayBuildup to further refine the shapes in the fabric. I also ended up masking out parts and pulling fabric over to make more convincing folds, mainly in places where the fabric would bunch up. I ended up really liking how things were looking when I did that.

When it came to the skirt, I ended up doing more ruffles than I originally thought. I was doing the skirt one way to start and I didn't like it, so I did something else that I immediately liked better. I also defined the ruffles coming off the end of the skirt. The main thing with the skirt was that I had to keep switching subtools when moving it around as the dress itself has many layers.

Next Steps

I'm going to keep working on this sculpt and I'm going to update here at least once a month. I have other projects I'm working on that I have to prioritize, but I will be working on this. I have a newfound excitement for this project, and I'm determined to see it through.
